Ah, the little things that you must remember in order to have a chance at surviving. One of the more obscure rules of playing Crawl is that you should not wear unidentified rings/amulets, even if they are not cursed, as they are not always beneficial.
In this game, I kept an unidentified ring on and encountered Jessica. While shooting her, she hit me with a magical frost and my ring turned out to be a ring of fire. Death soon followed from a magic dart, as I tried to take the ring off.
Lessons Learned
1. Don't wear unidentified jewelry.
